Statewide Amendment 1Statewide Amendment 1

Today, if the Lieutenant Governor’s job becomes empty, it usually stays empty until the next regular election for that job. This change would require an election to fill it in some cases, let lawmakers set certain salaries, and require an elected legislative officer to approve lawmakers’ travel spending. The official statement says it would have no costs or taxes.

If Yes wins
A yes vote means the Constitution will change. It would set new rules for filling a Lieutenant Governor vacancy, setting certain salaries, and approving legislative travel spending.
If No wins
A no vote means the Constitution will not change. The current rules for filling a Lieutenant Governor vacancy, setting certain salaries, and approving legislative travel spending will remain.

Statewide Amendment 2Statewide Amendment 2

Today, each county school system has its own county board of education. This change would let two or more neighboring county boards agree to join their systems, after a study and public notice. If enough voters in an affected county protest, voters in each affected county would have to approve the change.

If Yes wins
A yes vote means the Constitution will change. Neighboring county school boards could use the new process to join their school systems, with a study and a way for voters to object.
If No wins
A no vote means the Constitution will not change. The new process for joining neighboring county school systems will not be added.

Statewide Amendment 3Statewide Amendment 3

Today, this amendment does not require every public school to say the Pledge of Allegiance each school day or to have a policy allowing student-started and student-led prayer. This change would require local school boards to adopt policies for both. The ballot text gives no cost or tax estimate.

A yes vote means the Constitution will change. Local school boards would have to adopt policies requiring the Pledge at the start of each school day and allowing student-started and student-led prayer.
If No wins

Today, this amendment does not require public schools to play or perform the national anthem each week. This change would require local school boards to adopt policies for schools to play or approve a performance of the song’s first part at least once each week during school hours.
