Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs proclaimed October 2026 Alpha Delta Kappa Month in the city on Oct. 7, recognizing the organization’s members and their contributions to education and their communities, according to the City of Cullman.
The city said Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators, founded in Missouri in 1947 by Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall and Hattie Poppino. Membership is honorary and based on peer recognition, and members support education and serve their communities through educational, civic, cultural and charitable efforts, according to the announcement.
Alpha Delta Kappa promotes educational excellence, professional and personal development, fellowship and world understanding, while supporting projects, grants and scholarships, the city said. Members celebrate the organization each October and honor its founders, according to the announcement.
Cullman has two chapters, Beta Delta and Alpha Theta, whose members include active and retired educators, the city said. Jacobs said the members have spent their lives helping others learn and continue giving back to the community, and he expressed appreciation for their work. The city said the proclamation recognizes members for combining their energy and talents to enrich lives in Cullman and around the world.
