The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs announced Oct. 21 that Garden City, in Cullman County, will receive a $297,751 grant for outdoor recreation improvements through the federal Recreational Trails Program, according to ADECA.
The grant will help pay to build eight recreational vehicle campsites with water, sanitary sewer and electrical service at Garden City River Park, ADECA said. The town also plans to construct a trail linking the campsites with existing park amenities and the kayak launch, according to the announcement.
Garden City will contribute $74,438 in matching funds to the project, ADECA said. Gov. Kay Ivey informed Mayor Timothy Eskew that the grant had been approved, according to the agency.
ADECA said the Garden City award is one of six grants totaling about $1.2 million for trail and recreation projects around Alabama. The program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and administered in Alabama by ADECA, according to the announcement.
